Plug compatibility and voltage compatibility are separate questions. A device may fit the outlet but still be electrically unsuitable, or it may support 230V but require an adapter because its plug has a different shape.

Real wall sockets can look slightly different depending on the building, socket manufacturer and age of installation. Hotels may also provide multi-standard sockets or separate USB charging ports. Plug shape does not tell you everything about voltage, so check both the outlet type and the device label.

What Plug Type Does Switzerland Use?

Travelers from the United States and Canada

American and Canadian Type A and Type B plugs do not fit Swiss Type J outlets. You will need a physical plug adapter.
